Here’s the thing everybody got to understand. Hip-Hop is about being REAL, not fake. Hip-Hop is a product of emotions and reality, the obstacles humans face, the tragedies they go through, the lives in which they prosper in. It’s everything.

It’s the West Coast showing you everything about the gangs, the drugs, the violence, the injustice, the women, the weather, the cities we hate everything about, but can’t help but love.

It’s the East Coast that shows you about the drug dealing, the hustle, murders, gang life, good kids, bad cities, kilos, drugstores, buildings, art, the realness of it all.

It’s the Dirty South praising the hood they live in, the drugs they love, the women they adore, the cars they treat like women, the importance of showing yourself off to the world and being proud of your roots.

It’s every side of the damn world. INDULGE in hip-hop. Let it influence you in any way you want it to. But don’t abuse it. Hip-Hop isn’t meant to make you portray something you’re not. The artists don’t want you acting like them, they want you to hear them out, and vibe with them. Appreciate everything they’ve encountered to learn something new about the world or yourself. Hip-Hop isn’t for you to show off just to look like you’re cool. It’s not for you to wear to show that you’re down for the thug life.

Hip-Hop comes from Rock, Blues, Metal, Psychedelic Rock, Reggae, and any other genre you can think of. By poets, by political activists, other regions of the world, events that occur, movies they’ve seen, people they’ve met.

You don’t need every album by every rapper that has ever lived, you just need to know what it’s all about. The reasons that the lyrics are amazing, or understanding what makes that sample sound so beautiful with the simplest of drums. It’s knowing that a well-done song speaks to you on a level that other ways might not be able to.

In the end, hip-hop is the truth.
